About the Artist
-
Max Burgess is a British photographer and designer based in Kraków, known for his black-and-white street photography shaped by an architectural sensibility. His work explores the quiet intersections of form, fog, and urban life — distilling cities into moments of clarity and contrast. Originally trained in architecture in London, Max blends structural precision with an instinct for candid, human moments. His ongoing project Quiet Collisions documents Kraków’s atmospheric mornings, minimal gestures, and overlooked geometry. Max also runs Yolk Workspace & Community, a creative hub that reflects his commitment to building both physical and social spaces.

DescriptioaMax Burgess is a British photographer, designer, and community builder currently based in Kraków, Poland. With a background in architecture from the Cass School of Architecture in London, Max’s visual language is defined by precision, spatial awareness, and an instinctive attraction to structure. His black-and-white street photography translates the discipline of architecture into a quiet, observational approach to urban life.
Before moving into photography full-time, Max spent more than 15 years in London’s television post-production industry, working as an editor and color grader. This experience sharpened his eye for tone, subtlety, and visual storytelling — elements that now define his photographic work.
Max’s current project, Quiet Collisions, is a study of the understated poetry found in Kraków’s streets: fog drifting beneath bridges, isolated figures crossing empty squares, benches illuminated like small stages, and the soft geometry of early morning light. His images seek out the moments where the city’s structure and its people briefly align — the “collisions” where atmosphere, form, and human presence meet.
Alongside his photographic practice, Max founded Yolk Workspace & Community, a coworking and social hub focused on connection, creativity, and shared experiences. This dual life — building spaces and visually interpreting the city — creates a unique perspective on urban environments and the people who inhabit them.
Max exhibits internationally and produces fine-art prints using his own printmaking process, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary street photography.n text goes here
